Lenovo W500 - Part 1
As my old notebook got to slow for my taste, I went out for getting me a new one. But that wasn’t a easy as suspected. After some time of comparing and reading reviews I have decided to go with a Lenovo W500, which is one of those systems that can be hardly wrecked.
The preinstalled OS is Windows Vista Business and a rescue system which should work on a single button click to restore the ‘factory defaults’ if needed. The display shows a resolution of 1920x1200 px and the VGA card assures enough power.
Finally I got the notebook at home and finished my usual dancing and hopping around as I was quite excited. So I aimed for the power switch and - silence. Just some very low whispering indicates that the system was powered on and actually working.
And there we go on customizing the settings of Windows Vista - To be honest, I have had to deinstall a ton of unwanted software. But at least there was no symantec antivirus on it.
After the deinstallation party I got me the important programs like OpenOffice and Antivir and so on until the system was usable for common work. Then I did a backup and started to repartition the harddrive which went fine in a timely fashion. That’s the power of 7200rpm you should never underestimate.
So long, this was the windows part and I am powering down for booting a 64bit Linux CD - but that’s another topic.
