The second glance at Windows 7
I am running Windows 7 since a little while now and I guess it was my talent of finding all of the problems left on my machine at once. But hey, that’s life regarding early adoption of such stuff as I couldn’t wait to test it.
I have to admit, that the first days were not bad at all and my hardware got detected as it should and I had some time to play with the system (if I wasn’t doing stuff with Linux) and try the features. Due to my laziness one of the first things I wanted to do was reactivating my fingerprint sensor which forced me to use some beta software to get it working (somehow). True, this is not a perfect solution, but it works and doesn’t crash the system.
But regarding security, I have to deal with another device too, an eToken by Aladdin which contains my certificates. But sadly there are no drivers available. Aladdin states that Windows 7 support is about to arrive and it won’t take that long - in fact, they are talking about the first quarter of the next year.
But after all that ranting it is also time to spread some good news: Windows 7 boots very fast compared to vista and the system feels pretty alive if you are working with it. Stability seems to be fine and I am looking forward to the missing drivers and hope to find a proper solution regarding my certificates on my token.
